Centuries ago, Lucifer
Morningstar rebelled against the Kingdom of Heaven, and was thrown into a
shapeless void known as the Chaoplasm. The Chaoplasm was transformed into an
empty and barren land known by many as Hell, the final destination for damned
souls. Here Morningstar ruled, awaiting the day he could be freed. His powers
are deemed to be almost limitless and only second to the most powerful entity
in the DC universe ‘The Presence’
and the arch-angel Michael Demiurgos. His powers include:
- Nigh-Omnipotence: Despite other Archangels losing this power, Lucifer managed to retain it to the point where he can manipulate any cosmic force.
- Cosmic Awareness
- Energy Projection
- Enhanced Intellect
- Flight
- Immortality: Lucifer cannot grow older with respect to time nor can he be killed. He can only be erased from existence by the presence.
- Invulnerability
- Magic: Lucifer is one the universe’s finest Magic users.
- Matter Absorption
- Necromancy: Lucifer has absolute control over the dead and control what happens to them.
- Pyrokinesis: Lucifer can create, hold and control the Holy Fire according to his will.
- Thermal-Blast: Lucifer can create flames at will.
- Incineration: Lucifer’s flames are capable of incinerating any being in existence.
- Dimensional Travel: Lucifer can create a Portal to hell whenever he wants.
- Reality Alteration
- Superhuman Stamina: Lucifer does not require food or sleep to operate.
- Superhuman Strength
- Superhuman Speed: Lucifer can circle the planet before he leaves your vision.
- Telekinesis
- Wings: As a fallen angel, Lucifer possesses large angelic wings.
In DC’s comic edition The Sandman Lucifer was forced to share
his power after the Great Darkness's return, but Lucifer managed to keep most
of his power. At one point a Cosmic entity, Dream of the Endless entered Hell
searching for the Helm that had been stolen from him when he was imprisoned.
After Dream recovered his helm and slighted him, Morningstar threatened to
destroy Dream. Lucifer finally decided he was tired of his existence as the
ruler of hell and decided to leave this position. Over that time, He
manipulated various demons into fighting each other as well as led the war
against heaven. However, at some point during his rule, he had become bored
with this existence. He was fed up of how he was depicted among the mortals as
the being who guided them to do wrong which was very untrue. He was simply
there in hell to punish those who did wrong by their own choice and ended up
with him. He had become tired of his reign over Hell and felt it was an unfair
punishment that he should have to rule there forever simply because he once
rebelled. He reached the final straw eventually and let every damned soul and
demon escape hell and handed over the key to the Dream of the Endless.
Eventually, control of Hell was handed over to two Angels, Duma (the angel of
silence) and Remiel ("who stumbled rather than fell"), while Lucifer
simply retired to Earth, specifically to Perth, Western Australia.
In the solo DC comic named Lucifer his storyline was explained
after he was casted out of heaven and then he opens a piano bar called
"Lux" in Los Angeles. Lucifer is portrayed as a rather charming and
beautifully sophisticated man on the outside but on the inside, he was still
the arch-angel with powers that were second only to his father Yahweh and as a result he had little to
no respect or care for Mortal beings. Lucifer is however described as being the
wisest and most handsome of all the angels that were present in heaven and he
managed to keep most of it even after his fall making him an archangel. Despite
his egoistic and narcissistic tendencies, he does follow a code of honor and
respects his brother Michael Demiurgos. He also refuses to lie in any situation
(A trait highly popular for the devil) but this should not in any way be
confused with having virtue.
